Who is behind Lyan The Label?
My name is Emily. I am an emerging Chinese-Australian designer with an immense passion for handbags. I am driven by the desire to make more conscious and thoughtful choices for my wardrobe, which led me to create my own brand. I struggled to find a luxury bag that was both stylish and ethically made, so I decided to embark on designing and researching the ethical production of handbags. Outside of my brand, I work in the healthcare sector and enjoy helping people achieve their personal well-being goals.
Your signature on the products?
My signature is the iridescent leather and the octagonal stitching on the bags. The leather is a personal choice, as I find its iridescent effect adds a special and subtle touch. It's a detail that is both discreet and elegant. As for the octagonal shape, it has cultural significance for me, linked to my Chinese heritage. It refers to the Chinese "bagua," which symbolizes interconnectedness and balance.

Favorite material?
I like innovative and/or recycled fabrics for more sustainable fashion. In particular, blended materials with compostable components, such as bamboo or hemp.
Who should definitely own a piece from your brand?
Anyone looking to elevate their look with a stylish bag and seeking more ethical options.

A dream collaboration?
Michelle Yeoh or one of the members of BlackPink. It would be an immense source of pride to have such cultural representation.
Next step in your brand's success?
I would like to organize more pop-ups, whether in Australia, my hometown, or internationally.
