Who are you?
My name is Elaine, I am the founder and creator of The Rhetor. I am from Malaysia.
Why The Rhetor?
The brand name, "The Rhetor," refers to a rhetorician, a person skilled in the art of communication. I chose this name because I believe that clothing is also a form of communication. My designs are like a language; they carry the messages I wish to share with the world. Those who wear my pieces become rhetoricians, as they interpret the message of my designs through their own style, temperament, and life experiences, while enriching and enhancing it.
What inspires your collection?
For our SS25 collection, we drew inspiration from the famous French philosopher and feminist activist Simone de Beauvoir, particularly her analysis of complex femininity. She introduced the idea of becoming rather than being, challenging the notion of a fixed femininity. We translate this concept into designs that embody duality, a play of contrasts between strength and vulnerability, tradition and rebellion, structure and fluidity. In this collection, we explored oppositions through colors, materials, and silhouettes, from soft pastels to vibrant reds, from fluid satin to clean, structured cuts. This collection captures the sophistication and contradictions of the modern woman, between restraint and audacity, softness and radicality, power and discretion.

Your favorite mantra?
"The time is always right to do what is right."
Your favorite place in Paris?
That's a tough question, I have several! But if I had to choose one, I would say Montmartre, specifically the elevated area behind the Sacré-Cœur Basilica, with its many restaurants and unique atmosphere.

What's next for The Rhetor?
I want my creations to be everywhere, seen by people all over the world. For now, everything is still in the planning stages, so stay tuned! And one thing is for sure, I'll be back in Paris soon with exciting new collections to present.
