Who is behind Mathilde Marteau?

I have been an artisan jeweler in Marseille since I completed my training at the Arts et Techniques de la Bijouterie in 2013. I create and craft jewelry entirely by hand using the silver filigree technique, which is an ancient craft.

What are the brand's values?

I aim to highlight the quality of artisanal work, entirely handcrafted by me in small quantities, using precious metals to produce unique, durable jewelry made in France.

Why choose to draw inspiration from South America in your creations?

I've always been very drawn to the history of jewelry. Filigree is a technique found on all continents. But I specifically went to Mompox, Colombia, because I was attracted by the finesse of their filigree work, and I had the chance to meet Nira Herrera, an artisan specialized in the filigree technique, who trained me in this precious craft.

What is your dream destination?

I would like to travel to Greece soon, to follow in the footsteps of ancient Greek goldsmiths and visit the Ilias Lalaounis Museum, a Greek jeweler in Athens, which houses over 4,500 pieces of jewelry and miniatures made by himself and other artists.

Your must-see spot in Marseille?

It's going for a swim in Malmousque after leaving the workshop and enjoying the sunset.
