How did the MNK Atelier adventure between sisters begin?
It's funny, because we always wanted to start a business together. We always dreamed of doing something together. And then, I have a background in fashion design, so it just happened naturally. I worked in that sector for a long time, then Milly worked in hers for a long time, and we partnered to launch our brand.
Three words that embody the DNA of MNK Atelier?
Obviously, MNK Atelier is Milly and Kobe. But the three words I would say are: modern, nostalgic, and kind. That's also MNK.
Why is having a sustainable brand so important to you?
For us, it's always about dressing women with confidence, making them feel pretty and empowering them.
So we believe that dressing sustainably is a great thing because we use high-quality materials, we source them ourselves, and we create pieces that last a long time in our wardrobes. And I think that's very important for all of us.
What inspires you most, the elegance of Paris or the energy of Sydney?
I would definitely say a bit of both. We love to travel together. We love to explore new cities. So we find a lot of inspiration in travel. So, a bit of both and also in other cities, I suppose.
What is your essential accessory?
(Kobe) My essential is definitely earrings. A very bold style like this, because our clothes are more basic but with a twist. So pairing them with unique earrings or a necklace is very important to me.
(Milly) Personally, I would definitely say a watch. I love watches, especially skeleton watches. They remind me of the inner workings of the mechanism and the hard work that goes into creating a watch. And that also reminds me that I have to work hard in my business. And a watch is undoubtedly a strong piece that elevates an outfit.
Do you have a cultural recommendation, an artist to discover?
We love strolling through Paris. There are so many galleries we've discovered just by walking the streets. We also love seeing beautiful interior design shops. We've found a lot of very beautiful furniture stores. And we always like to sit in front of the windows and soak up all the inspiration. And I love doing that, especially in Saint-Germain-des-Prés.
